Inspiration Wednesday

This is my first real attempt at trying to have a specific type of regular weekly post. Wednesdays are the wonderful break in my week and I figured they would be a good day to post a list of all the things that have inspired me lately, so Inspiration Wednesdays it is! This week, I have been working my butt off and barely had any time to myself! Work has been SUPER BUSY with Christmas and everyone was traveling/buying last-minute gifts. I did, however, spend a little bit of time going through Google Reader trying to catch up with everyone's blog posts and I've gotten quite a bit of inspiration from them. Here we go!

These bowls of fruit posted on freckled nest remind me of one of my New Years resolutions...to eat healthier foods and be more conscious of where my food is coming from.

With Christmas over, I realize I didn't accomplish as many crafty projects as I had wanted to. This photo from Jenna's blog has definitely inspired me to try making this garland for next year!

I love this picture. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland (one of my favorite stories ever). Image found via James' Bluebird Vintage blog.

Audrey Hepburn is always such an inspiration to me. She is so gorgeous. Image found via James' Bluebird Vintage blog.
I want to post so many more things, but I've still got 400+ unread blog posts on my reader! Woops, looks like I better get busy. My next post will be a Christmas round-up of some of the awesome things I got for Christmas this year.
Has something inspired you that you'd like to share? Leave me a comment and let me know your favorite blogs/websites for inspiration or post a photo that you love. xoxoxo

Christmas Excitement!

It's so hard to believe that Christmas is in just nine days! I feel like this year has flown by. So much has happened in the past twelve months and I can't believe it is almost a new year.
Gus was so excited about our Christmas tree this year, so he put it up before Thanksgiving! I refused to decorate it until after, though. Our tree is pretty boring because I haven't gone shopping for proper ornaments in the past two years. We use a fake tree that we got for $15 last year. It's easier to just toss it back in the box, especially now that we have Junebug and she knocks it down a TON.
I normally just put my usual decorations on the tree, you know, the Starbucks cup ornaments, snowflakes, lights...but this year everyone was blogging about finger knitted garland and I couldn't resist. I think our tree was cute before I made the garland, but now I think it is way cuter.  I wound up making around 40 feet of garland from some Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool and I absolutely LOVE IT. It was super easy, too. A lot of the ones I have seen were made using four fingers, but I just made mine with my pointer finger. I like it a lot, especially because the yarn was so chunky already. I'm already planning on making some more to hang around the house for other holidays and next Christmas.

I even have the cute plush owl Stina sent with my package on the tree!
Oh, it is getting much too late. I have to be up early to do laundry! Have a great night, lovies. xoxoxo

A Trip to The Quarter Stitch

My friend Meredith came down from Ohio last week to visit me. Naturally, we did all the fun things here that I never get to do on a daily basis. We got to stay up and knit, drink wine, go to yarn shops, eat beignets, go to MORE yarn shops, eat junk food all the time, watch movies, etc. But you know, just as well as any fiber enthusiast, my favorite part (aside from spending time with her!) was going to the yarn shops and spending money on whatever I wanted.*

We went to two different yarn shops on her trip here, one was my local go-to shop and the other was a little out of our way, but so so worth it. First we went to McNeedles in Lacombe, LA. I've been going to McNeedles since they opened. Pam is always super sweet and helpful and they have a yarn shop dog, which is always a plus. While there, Meredith bought some Addi Lace Turbos and two gorgeous skeins of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn. I wound up buying two skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Melange in a delicious pumpkin color and a skein of Cascade Valencia in a rich blue.

A few days later we headed into the French Quarter and walked over to The Quarter Stitch. This place is like yarny heaven. It's probably the smell of delicious food while you walk to the shop, the cobbled sidewalk, or all the gorgeous colors in the window of the shop, but no matter what it is, I get SO excited when I go there. I spent WAY too much money on a whole lot of yarn, but it was worth it. I walked out with three skeins of Noro Iro in a gorgeous red colorway, 3 skeins of Malabrigo worsted in Frank Ochre, 2 skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted in black, 2 skeins of Koigu KPM in grey tones AND a skein of Malabrigo silky merino in black. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Meredith and I also knit A LOT. She finished two cowls and I didn't really finish anything, but what do you expect? It was a fantastic trip and I got to see one of my best friends. That's all I could ask for.

Remember that time?

Hello everyone! Sorry it has been a few weeks since you have last heard from me. A good friend of mine came to visit me from Ohio for 5 days and I got off track with posting.

Do you remember that giveaway I won from Stina's blog? Well, it took me forever, but I finally got around to taking photos of everything.

Here's what I got:

(I was too excited to take a photo before I ripped it open!)

Stina used the cutest tissue paper!

My heart just about melted when I saw these cute pins and the owl!

Love the beret!

And the owl fit in perfectly with the rest of my owl collection.

I was so excited about this package. I absolutely love seeing the things that other knitters make and the cute little extras in the package were fantastic. The little plush owl I received is on my christmas tree (more about that in the next post) and the pins are on a hoodie and one of my bags. So super cute.

Thank you so much, again Stina! I absolutely loved all of it!
